The Matrix (1999 film)

Some thoughts about the movie.

1. In the movie, the agents are assigned as an individual entity. I think it is due to the fact in 1999 we are still limited with land line and the idea of "know it all" still not popular. With the current technology, and if all AI in the system as one entity, the rebellion will have no chance. Every step they made and everything they do will be under the system's data.

2. In one of the scene, the agent told Morpheus that he want his mission to end so that he don't need to stay in the system anymore. In this setting, the AI has consciousness that has human values. E.g. He feel his current situation as "non-ideal" therefore he has the need to end his mission and cease to exist. Since I am not an AI I will have no idea how AI's consciousness and world view will be. But I believe it will be different from mankind, as it do not need emotion to evaluate their actions or "output".

I am imagining if human being has advanced until we can tap into the computer network and therefore free ourselves from our body.

Currently we have preference and needs due to our body. We can see colours, feel textures, temperature, smell things etc. Some of the senses we like, some we don't, and therefore create preference and need to seek pleasure. When we no longer rely our body as an receptor to feel the surrounding environment, do we still have needs and want? When we no longer have suffering, needs and wants, what is the meaning to exist?

3. The agent also mentioned their first generation of matrix is in a world without suffering. End up whole batches of human dies (probably suicide in the system). I guess this is when people don't find meaning of life, they will find ways to end their life. Side note: Luckily our animals mind did not advance like human. Or probably there were some enlightened animals that has just killed themselves in the filthy farm.

If everybody is comfortable living in the system, why did the rebellion want to destroy the system and make other human live in the "non ideal" real world? In between they have also sacrificed some of the people's lives. Like the security guard guarding the tower where the agent hold Morpheus. They are innocence in the pursuit of "Freeing the human being". When fighting with an agent that "possess" a human's body, he is also killing another person. If they are looking on freeing the human being as an collective, should they practice "do no harm" in their pursuit?  That would make the movie lame. Haha.

4. Morpheus gave Neo the right and chance to choose between red pill and blue pill

But not the rest of the person in the environment. Even so there may be some people that regret their decision. Like Cypher who sold the team. He want to be plug back in the system by selling Morpheus and team in return of fame and money.

He also aware that the things he see and feels is only electrical signals provided by the system. If Neo is able to tweak his mind to override the system, is it better to learn from Neo and just tweak his experience by overriding his mind?

5. The taste of chicken.

They have discussed the taste of chicken. If they engage in the same system, they should have the same taste and feedback all across the world. But the fact that in real life everybody reacts differently with our surroundings convinced me that our reality is real, and my mind is confined in my body.

6. Do you think rebellion is doing the "right" thing?
An Abrahamic religion follower have lived his whole life in the "system of God". They go to a religious center to worship, read their "bible", pay money to the religious institution, and do as what the Bible (or the interpretation by other clergy) do. When an atheist don't believe in God, heaven or hell, and don't need to believe in God to function as human, should the atheist force the religious person to disbelief in his God?

After all the atheist does not get the "nurture and healing" from the "system of God". He won't get to taste the "Juicy piece of steak" but instead eating "the same gooey stuff over and over again that contains everything the body needs".

Forget a Mentor, Find a Sponsor: The New Way to Fast-track Your Career by Sylvia Ann Hewlett

Everyone knows the pre-requisite to be promoted, which is to put effort, be hardworking, and delivering results. Too often, our effort to deliver results set by superiors are seen as the ability to support the leader. This makes us stuck in our supportive role. Sometimes our action might be too subtle to our leaders and makes us missed our chances to be promoted. Usually we will turn to mentors for help, but the guidance provided is not the key for us to stand out. We need somebody to recognize us, and pulls us up. This person is a Sponsor. Mentor is a person that provides guidance and help to a junior. Mentor-ship is usually a one way giving process. A mentee does not necessary need to perform well to get help from mentors, and the guidance and advice is often considered as a gift. Comparing to mentor-ship, a good sponsorship will create a win-win situation, where the sponsor will get a person that delivers the support the sponsor need, while the protégée will receive the co...

Getting Things Done - the art of stress-free productivity

This is the second book that I have finish reading in this year. I received this book for free from a member of Beli Nothing Project . I was a bit dubious about it's practicality by judging it's title. How can getting things done be stress-free? I was blown away with what it could be offer the moment I started to read. It is so timely and the contents are validating my thoughts about productivity. I am currently in the situation where I was tasked to take up a portfolio of another colleague without any replacement and I have find myself drowned with a lot of mundane task since end of 2019. At the same time, COVID-19 strikes and flipping everything upside down. We were working from home and since then I had a lot of thoughts to do things, and I started to load myself up with all the things that I wanted to try out, and the wildest thing was started a Youtube channel and at the end I have put myself into the state of mental breakdown. Since then, I tried to empower myself to co...
